ROUND THE BAY IN A DAY BIKE RIDE

INVITATION

This is a special invitation to members of the Monash Executive and staff to participate with the Monash Sport team in a challenging endurance bike ride.
It is also an invitation to those people not inclined to ride in the event to join in the celebrations at Docklands to welcome home the members of the Monash community that conquer the challenge.

BACKGROUND

Monash Sport is entering a team in the Round the Bay in a Day Bike Ride. It is an endurance challenge.

The event is organised by Bicycle Victoria and will be held on Sunday 17 October 2004.

There are two ride distances, the first is 100 km from Sorrento to Docklands and the second, at a distance of 210 km, is literally around the Bay from Docklands including a Ferry crossing between Sorrento and Queenscliff.

MONASH SPORTS TEAM

The Monash Sport team will have participants from the following sub-groups of the Monash community:

  • Monash students;
  • Monash staff;
  • Monash alumni;
  • Staff of Monash-related organisations such as Monash Commercial, Monyx and Monsu;
  • Community members of Monash sporting teams or the Monash gym; and
  • Friends and family of Monash staff and students.

The Monash Sport team will be kitted out in Monash Sport branded riding tops and knicks thanks to the funding support from the Vice Chancellor.

The skill level of our team members ranges from the novice doing the 100 km challenge on a new bike bought for the occasion (and travelling at an average speed of 15-20 km/hour) to the Monash Rockets (the elite riders who will traverse the 210 km ride at speeds exceeding an average of 35 km/hour).

There are many associated activities aimed at building community at Monash through this event including training rides, bike and equipment tuition from bike shop operators, a pasta night, a hospitality marquee at the finish at Docklands and special gym classes.
