Overview:

This workshop covers some key principles relating to educational design in higher education. These are then applied to the planning, design and development of media-based learning resources for students, with an emphasis on the design of e-learning environments. The workshop has been planned particularly for academic staff who are developing new courses or units which include online and/or off-campus components. Participants will receive a copy of an orientation workbook which supports the workshop.

Overview:
This workshop covers some key principles relating the use of online communication for teaching. Topics include e-moderation, online collaboration, and assessment of participation in discussion-based activities.  The workshop has been planned particularly for academic staff who are developing new courses or units which include online communication components. Participants will receive a copy of an online communication workbook which supports the workshop.

*Please note that part of this workshop will be conducted online in MUSO, beginning one week prior to the scheduled date of the face-to-face workshop.

2nd International Congress of Gender Medicine 2007, in Vienna, Austria, 2nd - 3rd June, 2007

The International Society of Gender Medicine welcomes you to the 2nd International Congress of Gender Medicine 2007, which focuses on the scientific impact of biological sex/gender on normal function and the experience of disease in women and men. The aim of the Congress is to invite an international group of experts in this field to provide the audience with an overview of the latest scientific data and information on all the sub-specialities of medicine.

Impact of research assessment on academic units - Lessons from the UK RAE (Research Assessment Exercise)

Prof John Taylor from the University of Southampton in the UK will be visiting Monash University in mid February and will share his extensive and intensive experience with the UK RAE with Monash HODS, ADRs, RQF Champions and interested others.

Prof Taylor will talk about the impact of research assessment, and the strategic and tactical response of academic units at a seminar as follows:

Postdoctoral Research at the Australian Stem Cell Centre - Ref ASCCMNRF3307

Dr Naoki Nakayama’s laboratory at the Australian Stem Cell Centre has an immediate vacancy for a Postdoctoral Scientist to work on factors that determine patterns of differentiation in vitro of cultured lines of human embryonic stem cells – in particular, the generation of hemogenic mesoderm. The initial appointment will be for two years. Announcement - Head, Department of Physiology

It is a great pleasure to announce that Professor Iain Clarke has been appointed as the new Chairman/Head of Department of Physiology, Monash University. Professor Clarke received undergraduate degrees in New Zealand and his PhD in Edinburgh, UK. He had post-Doctoral training in the Reproduction Research Section of Department of Physiology, Melbourne University and moved to Prince Henry's Institute of Medical Research in
1979. In 1982, he founded the Neuroendocrinology Group of that Institute and remained its Head for 22 years. He was appointed as an SPRF in the NHMRC fellowship scheme in 1998. In 2005, he accepted a Personal Chair in the Department of Physiology, Monash University. Professor Clarke is a leading international expert in the area of Neuroendocrinology, Neurosciences and obesity.
