The PPA is designed to encourage research degree candidates to disseminate their research findings to a wider audience through publication in professional journals or books. The PPA provides a living allowance for up to 12 weeks for research students whose theses are under examination and wish to use that time to write articles or books based upon their thesis.

The Prime Minister's Prize for Science comprises a gold medallion and lapel pin, and a grant of $300,000. The Prime Minister's Prize for Science may be awarded to an individual or jointly (up to four individuals) in a collaborative or team effort. There are no restrictions as to when the achievement was accomplished, however nominees (either single or collective) should be currently active in research. The Science Minister's Prize for Life Scientist of the Year and The Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year are awarded to scientists at an early stage in their careers. Each of these prizes is awarded for an outstanding achievement in science that advances, or has the potential to advance, human welfare or benefits society. Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal & VC's Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence 2007Congratulations to Dr Michelle Halls from the Department of Pharmacology for receiving the prestigious Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal for 2007. The medals have been awarded annually for the best doctoral thesis in each faculty since 1998, in honour of Professor Mollie Holman, a distinguished research scholar and vigorous champion of postgraduate research education. Dr Halls received the award for her thesis entitled "Characterisation of the signalling pathways of the relaxin family peptide receptors, RXFP1 and RXFP2". Congratulations also to Dr Cathryn Hogarth from Monash Institute of Medical Research for receiving the Vice-Chancellor's commendation for doctoral thesis excellence. | Contents | Casual Research Assistant (Clinical Interviewer)School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine We are looking for casual research interviewers to join a randomised controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for preventing relapse in recurrent depression. The trial is funded by a National Health and Medical Research Council grant. The position involves interviewing participants to obtain informed consent and confirm eligibility, the conduct of clinical interviews and the maintenance of associated records. Some travel and out of hours work may be required. A relevant health science qualification is required. Highly developed communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are essential. Postgraduate training and/or clinical experience working with people with mental illness are desirable. Successful applicants will be provided with fully paid training in the research interviews, including the CIDI diagnostic instrument. This will take place over two days on Monday 14^th April and Monday 21^st April 2008. As such, the event runs annually not only to commemorate Matthew and his positive work, but also to inform and inspire Monash medicine and allied health students and staff about Indigenous health issues. While past MCMEs haven't been themed, this year's will have the theme of: "Strong Foundations, Strong Future: sharing stories about Indigenous child health". There will be 3 or 4 speakers on the night, including a doctor, an Indigenous health professional and a Monash medical or allied health student who has undertaken an Indigenous placement.
